Worcester Common Ground has no openings at this time.  We are, however, always interested in exploring for-credit internship or other volunteer projects.  In the past, we've had internships in the areas of small business development, environmental preservation, marketing, homeless youth research, and community outreach (among many others).  We encourage our interns to explore their interests, and take on exciting, innovative projects! See below for more detailed descriptions of previous internship projects:

Community Outreach:

  • Implement recycling and composting program which lowers rubbish disposal costs for residents of low-income neighborhood to help with issues of illegal dumping and litter in the streets
  • Develop curriculum for educational workshops centered around recycling
  • Organize and facilitate community events and neighborhood meetings

Environmental Preservation & Marketing

  • GIS
    • Develop WCG properties and catchment area maps
  • 7-9 Jaques Avenue soil remediation project
    • Perform a literature review/develop an annotated bibliography to identify existing best practices (EPA, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and others)

Youth Homelessness Research

  • Compile a comprehensive list of resources available for homeless youth in the City of Worcester
    • Determine where are the gaps? What are the challenges?
  • In-person investigative work to visit agencies that are serving homeless youth
    • Work with these agencies to identify how we can best structure a housing project for this targeted group of individuals
    • Build the public narrative around the housing project to garner support
