136 Austin Street, Worcester
The home of artist Tom Lewis and his family for over 25 years, 136 Austin Street was purchased by Worcester Common Ground (WCG) in 2009 after Tom’s passing the previous year. In addition to being a passionate peace advocate, Tom was a creative force in the neighborhood. An established artist, he was one of the primary drivers behind the creation of WCG’s Tot Lot playground (and it’s Peace Wall) and the 133 Chandler Street mural update; WCG is honored to maintain his legacy via ownership of his home.
The property, an end unit of a four-building brick row house on Austin and Piedmont Streets, needed a substantial amount of work to match the rehabilitation performed by WCG on the other three buildings between 2002 and 2004 (130, 132 and 134 Austin). The property became a part of the scattered site, tax credit-funded Austin Corridor II project, and now contains two affordable rental units.
136 Austin is managed by Maloney Properties and rental inquiries can be directed to (508) 752-0833.
